Parent Workshops and Information Sessions

We are pleased to offer a series of workshops and seminars during the year on subjects of interest and concern to parents of young children.  We also arrange Information Sessions at the start of each term.

Information Sessions

If you would like to learn more about our classes, then please register for one of our information sessions. Each session provides a great opportunity to view the centre facilities, learn more about the programme and ask any questions you may have. This tour and presentation is suitable for parents and guardians . If you would like your child to experience the centre before enrolling, we recommend you also register for a Demo Session or Trial Class.

Sleep Training Solutions

A parent workshop presented by Joyce Edmondson

Joyce is a Canadian/ American Registered Nurse with 20 years experience working in all areas of hospital inpatient and community nursing. She holds a degree of Bachelor of Nursing. A great deal of her skills stem from a strong background in Emergency nursing and teaching. She is currently an instructor in First Aid and CPR, teaching all over Hong Kong. Following the birth of her first child, Joyce felt that she missed her passion and went back to school to complete her certification in Sleep Consulting. She has been helping families in the community for 5 years. She works closely with the family and tailors a plan to fit individual needs. 

Joyce moved to Hong Kong in 2008, she has two children aged 4 and 7. Both children were born here in Hong Kong where she had her first and very pleasant experience in the public health system.

The workshop will address:

  • The importance of sleep and how a sleep cycles works for babies
  • The importance of a daily routine
  • How to create a feeding schedule
  • How to create a nap schedule
  • How to create a bedtime routine

Private consultations can be arranged by appointment only after attendance of the workshop - details will be given at the workshop.

Weaning and Childhood Nutrition Workshop

A Parent Workshop by Chrissy Denton, MSc, BSc and sponsored by Ella's Kitchen

Born in New Zealand, Chrissy has been living in Hong Kong for the past 10 years where she works as a nutritionist, coach and personal trainer.  She has always had a passion for health where she feels even more passionate about this since having her 2 small children.

Chrissy has been involved in the health and fitness industry for a number of years where she has provided nutritional advice for such organisations including; high caliber Fitness Centres, Sports Performance Institutes, International schools and family nutrition services.  Since coming to Hong Kong she has also been involved in fitness & health management and runs her own business – Chrissy Denton health & fitness.

This workshop will address:

  • Nutrition and the important growth stages in babies and children
  • Weaning – what are the main signs and how to introduce the right foods at the right times?
  • Healthy snacks for toddlers – what are some good options and what to avoid?
  • Picky eaters – how to overcome these issues
  • The truth about sugar
  • Healthy nutrition for children & toddlers
  • Tasting session with Ella’s Kitchen


Positive Parenting Workshop - ALL FULL

A Parent Workshop by Dr. Sandy Leung and Mr. James Ip

Dr. Sandy Leung is a specialist in psychiatry with special interest in psychotherapy including psychodynamic psychotherapy, self-psychology, cognitive therapy, sandplgy therapy, positive psychology, mindfulness treatment and metallisation based therapy. She was previously appointed as the Honorary Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry of The University of Hong Kong and Chinese University of Hong Kong. Mr. James Ip is a child behaviour therapist experienced in using different therapeutic techniques in helping children with behavioural or emotional problems. They co-authored a top-seller parenting book “Parents in one sentence, resolves child's difficulty" (父母一句話,啟動孩子解難力) and delivers positive parenting workshops at various schools around Hong Kong. We are honoured to invite them to deliver the Positive Parenting Workshop at the ESF Language & Learning Centre. 

This workshop will address: 

  • The relationship between neurobiology and parenting.
  • How to calm a child down and enlist his/her co-operation?
  • How to bring up a secure child - attachment theory?
  • How to praise a child effectively?
  • How to turn a child's shortcoming into a merit?
